EU VAT guide

VAT Calculator EU

EU VAT rates vary by country, product, service, and context. This guide shows a safe browser-based workflow for quick net-to-gross or gross-to-net estimates while keeping official rate checks separate from the calculator result.

Quick workflow

A simple way to do it

  1. 1

Confirm the VAT rate you want to estimate before opening the calculator.

  2. 2

Enter the price and rate in VAT / Sales Tax Calculator, then choose add-tax or remove-tax mode.

  3. 3

Use the result for planning or comparison, and verify country-specific rules before accounting, invoicing, or filing.

Start with the rate, not a guess

EU VAT is not one universal percentage. Before calculating, identify the country and rate you want to test so the result reflects the scenario you actually mean.

Add VAT to compare gross prices

If you know a net price, add-tax mode estimates the VAT amount and customer-facing gross total. This helps compare pricing scenarios across rates.

Remove VAT from included totals

If the displayed amount already includes VAT, remove-tax mode estimates the original net value and the VAT contained inside the gross price.

Keep currency and tax decisions separate

The calculator handles percentages, not exchange rates or legal classification. Use Unit Converter for unrelated measurement checks and official sources for VAT rules.
